Improve iPhone Battery Life For Maximum Performance

How To Calibrate iPhone And iPad Battery Life For Maximum Performance

Step 1:

First and foremost, you will need to run your device’s battery down to zero. And by that, we mean that your device runs completely out of juice and powers down on its own.

Step 2:

Next, you’ll need to charge your device’s battery all the way up to the 100% mark; the holy grail.

Step 3:

Once you’ve reached the magic 100, leave your device on charge for another hour before unplugging it.

Step 4:

Use your device as normal, letting it drain down to zero. Ensure you do not charge at any time, or you’ll break the spell.

Step 5:

As with steps 2 and 3, you’ll need to charge up to 100% again, and leave it charging for a further hour once it’s full.

Step 6:

That’s it – your device’s battery is now calibrated.

3 Tips To Vastly Improve Your QuickTime Viewing Experience

3 Cool Tips To Vastly Improve Your QuickTime Viewing Experience

While several Mac owners tend to use VLC for all our video watching needs, there are many users out there who just prefer Apple’s native QuickTime app, if only just because it integrates better with the rest of OS X.

However, being a native Apple app, we tend to think of QuickTime as being closed in nature and impossible to tweak or customize. Nothing could be further from the truth, though, since you can actually vastly improve your viewing experience on QuickTime knowing just a couple of little-known features.

Let’s take a look at them.

1. Adjust QuickTime’s Subtitle’s Settings

Something that very few Mac owners know: OS X allows you to somewhat easily adjust the subtitles settings for QuickTime, which can be very convenient for users who don’t run VLC on their Macs or those who buy foreign films from iTunes captioned in other languages.

To adjust the subtitle settings of your Mac’s native apps, first head to System Preferences. Once there, use the search field to look for the Accessibility menu as shown in the screenshot below.

Within the Accessibility menu, look for the Captions section on the left side of the panel and click on it. On the right side of the window, you’ll see an example of how the subtitles on the native apps look like by default. There are another couple of options to choose from there, but to really make your subtitles custom, you’ll have to click on the “+” sign.

When you do, you will be shown a panel where you can create you own, fully customized subtitle format by choosing your own font, opacity level, text size and color, among many other variables until you find the format that best suits your needs.

2. Float Your Video On Top

Sometimes you don’t want to watch a video as if it were a movie in the theater, but instead just prefer to watch it more casually, even while you work on other stuff perhaps.

I didn’t know about this until today, but QuickTime now supports one of the best features of VLC and other media players: Float on Top. You can access this option from the View menu of QuickTime.

With it, you will be able to lock the QuickTime window on top of any other application anywhere on your screen, allowing you to switch apps freely while you work without missing any detail of your video.

3. Change QuickTime’s Playback Rate

This tip can be really useful depending on the occasion. For example, let’s say you are watching a lecture or a somewhat complex demonstration on QuickTime and the regular playback speed is just too quick (or to slow) for your taste.

The neat thing here is you can change it pretty quickly by just clicking and holding on the Play-Pause button for about three seconds. Once you do, a playback speed control will show up that will allow you to adjust the movie’s speed with a lot of precision.

And there you go. Make use of these tips to make your (or someone else’s) QuickTime viewing experience far more comfortable and convenient. Enjoy!

3 Best Tools to Auto-Unsubscribe from Marketing Emails

3 Best Tools to Auto-Unsubscribe from Marketing Emails

Nobody likes inbox clutter, especially if you don’t have all day to check emails. I’ve been a victim of newsletter spam for sometime now, and it took me a considerable amount of time to segregate important from the useless ones. An annoyance I lived with for a while and then decided it was time to get rid of it.

Gmail has some useful features like Priority Inbox and auto-unsubscribe option to help you tackle the mess, but it wasn’t late before the emails found their way around it.

In my quest to clean up my inbox and make it a better place to send and receive emails, I stumbled upon these three online services that help the user a more organized inbox without much effort. So, without further ado, let’s quickly have a look at these services.

1.  Unroll Me

Unroll Me has been there for a while now and we have already seen an in-depth review about the service in the past. The idea behind the app is dead simple and all you need to do is let Unroll Me analyze your inbox for all the commercial newsletters and offers you receive. It helps you to unsubscribe from them with a single click.

Apart from unsubscribing, the service also lets you create what it calls Roll Ups. These roll ups collect the promotional emails you don’t want to unsubscribe from and delivers them in one package (in a single email) in the morning. I think that’s pretty cool because many times we don’t really want to say goodbye to a newsletter but at the same time also don’t want it showing up each day. Combining many such emails into one makes it easier. But I do have a gripe with this service, which you’ll read about below.

2.  Swizzle

Swizzle is yet another service you can use to quickly unsubscribe from newsletters, deals, offers and other commercial mails from your inbox. Everything works almost the same way in Swizzle as in Unroll me. However, unlike Unroll Me, one doesn’t need to send promotional or advertisement emails about unroll me to friends in the email contacts to continue to use the unsubscribe option. Sharing should not be made mandatory and a service should not nag its users to promote so that he can continue using the service. Swizzle wins on this point.

Apart from that, the service also offers an iPhone app using which you can unsubscribe from emails on the go. The app’s interface is clean and easy to use and makes unsubscribing from emails a cakewalk. Apart from unsubscribing, Swizzle also offers daily digest just like there were Roll Ups in Unroll Me. These digests will deliver all the emails at one go once you move them to the daily digest section instead of unsubscribing to them.

So those were the two tools using which you can unsubscribe from your emails to make your inbox cleaner.

However, the downsides of both these services are that they don’t offer a permanent solution. If promotional emails keep finding a way into your inbox, it hardly solves the purpose. If you’re someone who is need of a professional tool to get rid of this headache and do not mind paying, read on.

3.  Sanebox

Sanebox is nothing like the two services that we have discussed. Sanebox is a full-fledged email management service that automatically filters your email of spam and unimportant messages to only show the emails that are important.

Instead of unsubscribing you from the emails, Sanebox takes complete control over your inbox and analyzes your emails and prioritizes them for you.

After you sign up for the service, you will have to grant Sanebox authority to have control over your inbox. The service will take some time to analyze your emails and once done, it will automatically filter the important from the spam or promotional emails and show them in your inbox. Rest of the emails will be moved to a newly created folder call @Sanelater.

When the service sorts your emails for the first time, you might find some important emails have landed in the @sanelater folder. All you need to do is just drag these emails back to the inbox folder and Sanebox will remember this choice in the future.

Sanebox also offers a dashboard for you to manage your emails and create additional folders to mark out marketing and promotional emails.

In Sanebox you can place an email in the SaneTomorrow, SaneNextWeek or Custom SaneSnooze folder and SaneBox will re-deliver these emails back to your inbox at that particular time so that you can review them again.

As mentioned, Sanebox isn’t free. The price starts at $49 for a single email account for a year. However, one great news is that you can refer your friends to Sanebox and earn $5 for each successful referral. So if you refer around 10 of your friends to Sanebox, you can get it free for a year.

Conclusion

These were the three services you can use to get only useful emails in your inbox. While the first two simply help you to unsubscribe from emails, the latter gives a better control over all the emails with few additional features to help you better manage your incoming and outgoing emails.

How to See Who Views Your Facebook Profile the Most

How to See Who Views Your Facebook Profile the Most

Ever wonder if someone in particular views your Facebook profile many times a day, whether it's someone you like or if it's a random stalker? Follow these steps and you can find out which people see your profile.

Steps:

1.  Understand this trick

This trick will give you insight into who views your profile, but Facebook isn't confirming exactly who they are. This list that Facebook keeps is determined by a lot of different factors: who comments on your posts, who you message frequently, AND who looks at your Facebook the most often (among other things).
  • There is no way to see JUST who looks at your page the most and any app which says that it can tell you that is lying and a scam
  • You'll have to learn how to interpret the list that this trick gives you. For example, look out for people showing up towards the top of the list who you know you don't message and you don't comment on their stuff. If someone you never interact with shows up pretty high on your list, you'll know it's because they're looking at your page.

2.  Open your web browser.

You will need one which allows you to view the source code for a website.

3.  Navigate to your profile/timeline.

4.  View the source code.

In Google Chrome, you can simply right click the background and choose "View page source". Other browsers usually have this option under the "View" menu.

5.  Use the webpage search function.

In Chrome and Firefox, click Control + F/Command+F to open the search box. This will search all of the text on any given page for the term you type in. You will want to search for "Friendslist" or "InitialChatFriendsList".

6.  Look up the individual profiles.

The numbers which immediately follow are the identification numbers of the profiles of your friends. You will see a string of numbers, each set in quotations and followed by a
"x0000xxxxxxxxxx-2", -2 or a -3, and so on. Copy the string without the - and the final number. Paste this after the ".com/" when looking at the main Facebook page. This will bring up the profile so you know who it belongs to.
  • The profiles in the list are listed in order by who visits your timeline most recently.

7.  Look up a specific profile.

You can also see where a specific profile falls in this list, but you will need that person's Facebook user id number. This can be difficult. Search their id number on your timeline and check where it comes up in the Friendslist to see how often they view your page.

  • The simplest way to find the user id is to view a picture that they uploaded. You will see a series of numbers in the address at the top. One of those strings will be the user id. You will have to simply test until you find it. The user ids are often about 9 digits long, but it varies depending on when you signed up.

How to Easily Move and Organize Files by Type In Windows

How to Easily Move and Organize Files by Type In Windows

The Command Prompt is so useful that it’s hard to not want to use it all the time. There are so many practical uses for it to expedite processes like cleaning up old Desktop items or ending running processes. Another helpful solution is when it comes to moving files. The simple move command can be set up in such a way to move all files under a certain file type.

Do you have many AVI video files mixed in with PNG images all listed in your Documents folder? This hectic mess needs to be and should be organized pronto. How will you find your images if they’re stashed away with documents or videos? We’ve described an easy way to extract file types from a folder and place them in their proper place on the computer. After reading this article you’ll be able to move all your documents/videos/images/downloads/etc. into their proper folders with ease, organizing your files as if they were in a download manager.

Make the Batch File to Move Files in Windows

The following command will move all JPG images from the current directory to the Pictures folder. To begin, you can either enter the command in the command prompt or create a batch file to run within any directory to do the moving.

For example, copy the following command:
move *.jpg %userprofile%\Pictures\

Now open Notepad from the Start menu and enter the command in the new file. Save this as MovePictures.bat. Be sure to change the Save as type drop down to All Files.

Now copy this file to your Desktop. Run the batch file to move every JPG image from the Desktop to the Pictures folder. If you need to clean up a different folder, like one full of videos and images, place the file in that folder and then open it.

Customize the  Batch File

Customizing the batch file is very easy. Change which image files will be moved by modifying the *.jpg portion. However, ensure the * symbol is still present no matter what the file type it’s changed to. For example, here’s a way to move PNG files:

move *.png %userprofile%\Pictures\

Aside from changing the file type, you can change the destination folder too. Make the change to the final location, like so:
move *.png C:\Images\

Note: The folder must be present for the batch file to work else a syntax error will display in the command prompt. If you’re moving files to the C drive under a folder called Images, ensure the folder is actually present, for the batch file won’t create it.

Basically, this is the structure the command must take:

move *.FILETYPE LOCATION

This should be easy to remember because the command will move a file type to a location, just as the structure of the command has been written.
Now that it’s understood how to modify the command, you can combine a few modifications to move multiple file types at once. This can be done for not only image files but also video or executable files. To move multiple file types at once, create a batch file like this:
move *.png %userprofile%\Pictures\
move *.gif %userprofile%\Pictures\GIFs\
move *.mp3 %userprofile%\Music\
move *.mkv %userprofile%\Videos\
move *.avi %userprofile%\Videos\

Conclusion

Organizing files is made easy with the Command Prompt. Literally any file type can be utilized, so experiment with it and see how clean and organized you can make your computer. You may even be able to use these commands and these Command Prompt alternatives here.

Prevent Google From Redirecting You to Its Country-specific Page

Prevent Google From Redirecting You to Its Country-specific Page

Google has adopted the local domain system wherein the search results are specific and closer to the location you are performing your search from. If you have ever observed carefully, when you type and enter google.com in the browser address bar you are automatically redirected to the Google domain of your country. For instance, if you are in India you would be redirected to www.google.co.in.

Now, this behavior can get really annoying at times. The reason is that you may actually want to perform a search on www.google.com instead of the country domain (as the results could vary)

So, is there a way to prevent the redirection and force open www.google.com? Yes, there is. And when you want to do that simply hit the URL http://www.google.com/ncr, where ncr means no country redirection

You need to do this just once. It results in setting a cookie on your browser and then when you try to reach www.google.com there won’t be any redirection.

If you ever want to revert to the original behavior, just clear you browser cookies.

How To Use Online Banking Safely

How To Use Online Banking Safely

Online banking is an extremely convenient way to check balances, pay bills and transfer funds between accounts. This convenience, however, also makes it quite convenient for thieves to steal your information, login to your accounts and do some unwanted transferring themselves. How do you enjoy the benefits of online banking, while protecting your accounts and money they contain? Here are some top tips.

Use different passwords for every different account

This can seem to be difficult to keep track of, but can be made easier by using variants of the same basic password. One easy way to do this is by using several words made into a phrase you can remember, and then tweaking it. For example, you can start with a phrase such as “Random Daisies Relax”. Remove the spaces, and substitute some letters for special characters, so you might have something like “R@ndomD@isiesRel@x.” Then, simply add an identifier or name of the bank to the end, so for a Citibank account you might use “R@ndomD@isiesRel@xCiti” or “R@ndomD@isiesRel@xMainAccount.

The above produces a very strong password, difficult to crack through brute-force methods, while being easy to remember, compared with something like “Rhjd^567#!dhjUkx.”Also, if a hacker discovers one password, they do not automatically have access to all of your bank accounts.

Never click through to your bank directly from an email

Often, phishing scams will produce emails that seem authentic, with your bank’s logo, color scheme and official-looking language. They often say that there is an important issue requiring immediate attention, and that you must click a link to log in and resolve the matter. Rather than click through, simply open up another tab on your web browser, and go to your bank’s website to verify the matter by typing in the URL, rather than clicking on the email link.

In the first place, it is highly unlikely that a bank will legitimately send a notice about an important issue through email. Most likely, they will send it via the postal service. Second, by going straight to the bank’s website in a browser, you avoid any malicious redirections or fake web forms linked to from the email, which simply capture your login credentials so that thieves can steal your money.

Ensure you are on a bonafide site

When on your banking site, make sure you have not inadvertently typed in a wrong address, such as BankoAmerica.com instead of BankofAmerica.com. The former actually does take you to the real Bank of America website, but better safe than sorry. Ways to tell that you are on the proper site include:

  • The URL begins with “https” rather than “http”.
  • When logged in, there is a padlock symbol in the bottom toolbar or other visual indication that the data is being encrypted.
  • The “About Us” and “Contact” pages are all present and have legitimate information and none result in “404 Page Not Found” errors.
One last tip is to make sure your antivirus program is up to date, as many now recognize malicious URLs and IP addresses and will warn you if you attempt to visit them.

Online banking can be safe with some common sense actions, but it is best to stay up to date by reading sites like this one to keep abreast of new threats.
